French doors, in general, are generally a pair of doors that use a common door frame with glass panes throughout their length. Interior French doors were more common in older homes, although they have been experiencing a surge in renewed popularity in recent years. They can also be used as doors to the exterior of a home, since new forms of insulated glass help preserve the indoor temperature just as well as traditional wooden doors.
Interior French doors are often beautifully designed and allow light to pass through them even when closed, adding an airiness and greater sense of space to your home. They come in a variety of sizes and types of wood to suit your needs. Most companies offer stock sizes, ranging from 1.5 feet to 3 feet in width and 6 to 8 feet in length, or you can have a custom size built to your specifications. Types of wood available for interior French doors include cherry, fir, mahogany, maple, oak, and pine.
In addition to these options, you can select how much glass you would like in your doors. This is called the Lite Configuration - a reference to the size and/or position of the glass in relation to the door as a whole. The number of lites indicates how many panes of glass exist within the door.
Finally, you can decide on the number of decorative panels you would like - in other words the modeled areas on the door's wooden or non-glass surface.
