Termite Extermination |
|
Termites can do serious damage to your home, and they need to be dealt with at first evidence of their presence. Termites have straight torsos and antennae. If you find small, large-winged insects flying around your lights or lying dead on the floor or window sill, you may have an infestation. |

There are severval different termite extermination methods. Soil Treatments control subterranean termites. You dig a small trench around the foundation of your home and pour a chemical into the trench, forming a barrier. This repels the subterranean termite. You'll need to repeat this treatment every five years. Fumigation works best for drywood and Formosan termites. Fumigation kills all the termites infesting the home. But there are some drawbacks. Dead termites will attract other insects that will feed on them. Also, you must vacate your home for at least 72 hours; all food must be removed; and mattresses and pillows must be wrapped in plastic. A specialist must test the air prior to re-entry. The wood treatment approach prevents infestation. If you're building a new home, any wooden components can be treated as the house is being constructed. The chemicals in the wood will protect the home for about 20 years. Bait treatments provide extra protection against subterranean termites. It involves the placement of a wood chip in your yard and around your home's foundation. When the termites attack the wood, it is replaced by a bait that the termites then transfer to the colonies, killing the termites in the ground. Microwave treatments use a large, flat microwave machine that kills termites inside the walls. This treatment is effective in killing termites inside the walls.
